An Initial Planning Assessment (IPA) is the minimum level of assessment completed before a student can start to receive specialist literacy or numeracy tuition. It is completed by a specialist teacher and informs the individualised teaching programme to be implemented.
The IPA involves assessments of reading and spelling/maths as appropriate and aspects of non-verbal and verbal logical reasoning and processing skills.
A table with test results is produced and initial targets for the teaching programme are set.
